J3 Grade is a chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel with moderate amounts of copper, nickel and nitrogen. Balancing of the alloying elements produces an austenitic structure in the annealed condition. This grade is similar to J4 with higher Cr for increased corrosion resistance.
Stainless Steel Sheet,Stainless Steel Strip,Stainless Steel Tube
The company independently researches and develops products.
Typical applications for Types J3 are Deep drawn kitchen equipment, Furniture, Bins, Coal Bucket, Wear Plate Liners and Hoppers, Cookware & Serving Bowls, Window Channel Spacers etc.
Element | Carbon | Manganese | Sulfur | Phosphorus | Silicon | Chromium | Nickel |
Type J3 | 0.15x | 7.5~13 | 0.03X | 0.045x | 1.0 x | 13 – 15 | 0.8~1.5 |
Type | Yield Strength 0.2% offset (KSI) | Tensile Strength (KSI) | % Elongation (2″ Gauge length) |
J3 Ann | 30 min. | 75 min. | 60 min. |
J3 ¼ Hard | 75 min. | 125 min. | 40 min. |
J3 ½ Hard | 245 max | 635max | 20 min. |
The annealing temperature for Type J3 is between 1050~1080°F. Rapid cooling through the carbide precipitation range (1500 – 800 o F) is necessary to keep the carbides in solution and prevent sensitization. Type J3 is not hardenable by thermal treatment; it is only hardenable by cold working.
