J1

DESCRIPTION:

Type J1 Stainless Steel  is an low nickel chrome-manganese austenitic stainless steel. Modest amount of nitrogen added to this steel results in higher annealed strength than AISI-304. However, copper addition reduces work hardening  rate to facilitate cold working/forming. J1 is relatively economical compared  to AISI- 304 having formability and weldability comparable to 304 with corrosion resistance superior to 430.

PRODUCT FORMS:

stainless steel plate, stainless steel coil, stainless steel tubing,

SPECIFICATIONS:

JSLAUS(J1)

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

Typical applications for Types J1 are Automotive trim and molding/Difficult-to-form exhaust-system components, clamps, Construction: Gutters and downspouts, roofing, siding, Kitchenware: Cooking utensils, dishwashers, ovens,
range hoods, Refrigerators, Skewers.

PROCESSING:

The annealing temperature for Type J1 is between 1050~1080°F. Rapid cooling through the carbide precipitation range (1500 – 800 o F) is necessary to keep the carbides in solution and prevent sensitization. Type J1 is not hardenable by thermal treatment; it is only hardenable by cold working.

FEATURES:

Non corrosive & heat resistant.
Long service life.
Minimum maintenance.
Suitable for heavy duty operation.
Nonmagnetic.

CORROSION:

Type J1 is resistant to a wide variety of mild to moderately corrosive environments.
